Sarlahi –
A woman has died from a snakebite in Gharibathan, located in ward 12 of Ishwarpur Municipality, in northern Sarlahi.

The deceased has been identified as 50-year-old Sita Pariyar, a local resident. On Thursday evening, she was bitten twice on the leg by a venomous cobra while she was feeding pigs outside.

Following the incident, Pariyar was immediately taken to the Nawalpur Snakebite Treatment Center. However, due to the severity of her condition, the center referred her to Janakpur, which has ventilator facilities. Ward member Khem Bahadur Budhathoki (also known as Dinesh) informed that she died on the way before reaching Janakpur.

According to the center’s in-charge, Jagarnath Yadav, Pariyar was already struggling to speak and unable to swallow when she arrived. “We administered 10 vials of anti-snake venom and referred her to Janakpur, but her condition was too critical for treatment here,” Yadav said.

He added that although the center has infrastructure like a ventilator and ICU, the lack of trained medical personnel prevents it from treating severely critical patients.

This is not the first such incident. Earlier, a woman from Karmaiya, ward 11 of Bagmati Municipality, also died from a cobra bite while picking pumpkins due to a delay in receiving proper treatment.

As the summer season is currently ongoing, the presence of venomous snakes has increased in the Terai-Madhesh region. Experts have urged the public to exercise caution around homes, fields, and farms during this period.
