A child lost his life when a dilapidated house collapsed in Kamad village of Chandranagar Rural Municipality–6 in Sarlahi district.

Six-year-old Arun Majhi died on the spot when the old house, belonging to local resident Naveen Singh, suddenly crumbled in the afternoon. The deceased was the son of Gautam Majhi, a resident of the same ward.

According to locals, the Singh family had abandoned the house and moved to Kathmandu around the year 2062 BS during the armed conflict. Since then, the house had remained deserted. Over time, it had deteriorated and become a frequent play spot for local children.

Local resident Rituraj Rishi (Musahar) informed that Arun was playing around the ruins when the structure collapsed. “The house, made of mud and bricks, had become increasingly dangerous every year. It collapsed all of a sudden while children were playing,” he said.

Following the incident, locals, along with personnel from the Nepal Police and Armed Police Force, launched a search operation using an excavator, fearing that more children might be trapped. However, no additional victims were found.

According to Police Inspector Umakanta Joshi of the Area Police Office in Kesharganj Bayalbas, the body of the deceased child has been sent to the Provincial Hospital in Malangwa for post-mortem examination.

The incident has cast a pall of grief over Kamad village. Locals have demanded that concerned authorities identify and remove such hazardous structures promptly to prevent future tragedies.
