The village of Bhandas Bipper Kateri in Golanjor Rural Municipality–6 of Sindhuli district has suddenly become the center of public attention. The reason: all 16 members of a single family have mysteriously gone missing. There is no clue as to where the family members of Urmila Hayu have gone. Livestock, kitchen utensils, and sheds remain untouched at the house—almost as if the people vanished into thin air.
Ward Chairperson Rabin Shrestha shared the information via social media, stating, “Urmila Hayu and 15 other family members are out of contact. The goats, chickens, and buffaloes at the house have been left unattended. The door is open, but no one is home.”
Upon receiving the report, a team from the District Police Office, Sindhuli, reached the site. According to Superintendent of Police Lal Dhwaj Subedi, the front door was found open, and livestock were locked in the shed. While the kitchen shed was found partially damaged, there were no signs of violence elsewhere in the house.
‘They Slaughtered a Pig on Thursday’
According to the preliminary police investigation, the family had gathered for a feast on Thursday evening after slaughtering a pig. That same day, members of the Hayu community—classified as an endangered ethnic group—had received a government allowance of NPR 12,000 per person.
This detail has opened a new angle in the investigation. Could it be that the family left for a trip after receiving the allowance? Or is there a deeper mystery behind their sudden disappearance? So far, the police have not reached any concrete conclusion.
Cause of Disappearance Still Unknown
Both local residents and police find the incident unusual and perplexing. Although no criminal activity is immediately apparent, the fact that all family members left their home at once and have not contacted anyone raises serious concerns.
“No one has reached out to neighbors or relatives. We initially thought they might have gone on a short trip, but being completely out of touch for this many days is not normal,” said a local resident.
The police have intensified their search efforts. Representatives of the rural municipality, security personnel, and local residents are working together to gather more information about the family’s whereabouts.
Public Urged to Report Any Leads
Ward Chairperson Shrestha has urged the public to inform the police or local authorities immediately if any of the family members make contact. “There is concern that something unfortunate might have happened, so the search must not be delayed,” he said.
