Residents of Fulbari Tole in Bardibas Municipality–7, Mahottari have embarked on a new journey of hope from Saturday onwards. In the presence of Mayor Prahlad Kumar Kshetri, the foundation stone for a deep boring project aimed at addressing drinking water and irrigation needs was laid.

Although the deep boring, drilled at a diameter of 6 inches and a depth of 200 feet, appears to be a small initiative, it is expected to bring significant impact. Initially targeting around 10 households, the plan is to eventually expand the benefits to the entire community, according to local residents.

For years, the people of Fulbari Tole have endured acute shortages of drinking water and irrigation. While surface water was visible during the monsoon, the rest of the year was marked by dryness and thirst. With agriculture as their main livelihood, the lack of irrigation had left farmlands barren and unproductive.

“We never imagined we would have access to water right at our doorstep. Seeing the foundation stone laid today, it feels like the municipal government has truly come to us,” said local resident Ramsis Mahara.

While laying the foundation stone, Mayor Kshetri emphasized that the local government is deeply committed to fulfilling the basic needs of its citizens. He stated, “We may have limited resources, but we are rich in willpower and responsibility. Providing water, irrigation, education, and healthcare is our top priority.”

He further shared that this project is not just an isolated example, but part of a broader effort to implement similar initiatives in other wards of the municipality. He reaffirmed the municipal government’s commitment to resolving water and irrigation problems across Bardibas.

Another resident, Chandar Mahara, expressed relief, saying, “Until now, we had to walk long distances just to fetch water. It now feels like the days of walking with a parched throat are finally coming to an end.”

Once fully operational, the project is expected to ease irrigation for nearby fields, increase seasonal vegetable production, and subsequently improve household incomes.

This seemingly small initiative marks a concrete step towards sustainability and self-reliance. When basic services like access to water are ensured at the local level, it not only transforms people’s living conditions but also reshapes their outlook. In this process, the growing cooperation and trust between local government and citizens can become the foundation for successful long-term development planning.

Thus, the deep boring project launched in Fulbari Tole is more than just a development scheme — it is a message. A message that where the government listens to the people’s struggles, solutions are possible. Now, the residents of Fulbari Tole have begun to feel that the boring machine drilling into the earth is also drilling away their daily hardships.
