Janamat Party’s national chairperson Dr. CK Raut has accused the major political parties of deliberately weakening federalism in practice, even though it has been formally established in Nepal.
Addressing a mass gathering and party induction program held in Kalaiya, the headquarters of Bara district, on Monday, Dr. Raut stated that the implementation of federalism lacks strong political will from the major parties.
“Federalism is meant to provide autonomy to the provinces,” Raut said. “But even today, the provincial governments lack their own police and administrative mechanisms. Since all civil servants and security forces remain under the federal government, the provinces are unable to implement their own decisions.”
He criticized the major parties for failing to strengthen federalism and emphasized the need for all Madhesi parties to unite to safeguard the rights of the Madhes.
Dr. Raut also expressed the view that constitutional amendments are necessary to resolve the issues facing the Tarai-Madhes and the broader nation.
“The government must work in a way that earns the people’s trust,” he said. “The current government, formed under the leadership of the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, presents an opportunity to revive public hope. However, its current approach does not appear capable of meeting public expectations.”
Speaking at the same event, Madhes Province Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh acknowledged that the provincial government has not been able to deliver as expected due to the limitations imposed by the federal coalition framework. Nevertheless, he said the provincial government is making every possible effort to ensure development and the protection of rights.
The event, chaired by Janamat Party’s Bara District President Shavanath Patel, also saw the participation of Constituent Assembly member Pramod Gupta, former provincial assembly member Paras Sah, and several leaders from various other parties who announced their entry into the Janamat Party.
