Preparations Underway to Make Annual Tuteshwarnath Mahadev Fair More Dignified, Disciplined, and Grand
The historic and religious site of Tuteshwarnath Mahadev Temple, located in Bardibas Municipality–5, is preparing to host its annual fair starting from the Mondays of the Nepali month of Shrawan. This year, special efforts are being made to ensure the event is organized in a dignified, disciplined, and grand manner. Bardibas Municipality has expressed the need for collaboration among various agencies and stakeholders to effectively manage the fair.
Speaking at a preparation meeting held on Saturday at the temple premises, Mayor Prahlad Kumar Kshetri emphasized the importance of cooperation between the Temple Preservation Committee and the Municipality’s Tourism Infrastructure Development Committee. He called for united efforts to promote religious tourism and ensure the fair is well-managed.
“The preservation and development of religious sites is a top priority of the municipality,” Mayor Kshetri said. “A fair organized at a deeply revered site like Tuteshwarnath should elevate Bardibas’s cultural, religious, and tourism identity.” He also expressed concern over the lack of proper promotion of local products during the fair in previous years, which has affected the economic growth of communities surrounding the temple. The mayor suggested that this year’s fair should include dedicated stalls for local agricultural, handicraft, and homemade products. “Integrating economic activities with religious fairs is the need of the hour,” he added.
Tuteshwarnath Mahadev Temple is regarded as one of Nepal’s prominent pilgrimage sites. Thousands of devotees from across the country and abroad visit the temple during the Mondays of Shrawan. In preparation for the expected large influx of pilgrims, arrangements for security, transportation, health services, and other essential support systems are being made.
The Mahottari District Traffic Police Office has announced a special traffic management plan for the fair period, keeping in view the increased volume of vehicles. The plan will include separate routes for vehicle entry and exit, designated parking zones, and a prioritized traffic management system.
To ensure visitor safety, 25 personnel each from Nepal Police and Armed Police Force will be deployed. Additionally, a significant number of volunteers will be mobilized around the temple area to support fair management, according to Govinda Shrestha, Secretary of the Fair Management Committee. The committee has also decided to install CCTV cameras in and around the temple premises to prevent theft, robbery, and other unwanted incidents. The surveillance system is expected to enhance both convenience and security for pilgrims.
The preparation meeting saw active participation from Ward No. 5 officials, security agencies, the Temple Preservation Committee, volunteer groups, and other stakeholders. All parties reaffirmed their commitment to making the fair a success through participatory planning, collaboration, and transparency.
Local residents have welcomed the municipality’s proactive and coordinated approach to fair management. According to them, focus should also be given to cleanliness, drinking water, sanitation, and rest areas around the temple—elements they believe are crucial for an improved visitor experience.
This year’s Tuteshwarnath Mahadev Fair is shaping up to be a multidimensional celebration—one that not only upholds religious sentiments but also highlights local identity, boosts tourism, and promotes economic prosperity. Under the leadership of the Tourism Promotion and Infrastructure Development Committee, with active support from the Temple Preservation Committee and the broader community, the fair is expected to make a significant impact.
