Police in Mahottari have arrested an accused who had been absconding for a long time for his involvement in a case related to the seizure of a large quantity of marijuana five years ago.
According to the District Police Office, Mahottari, the arrested person is Ram Sagar Das (Sagar) of Jaleshwar Municipality–7. He had been listed as absconding for a long time in a narcotics-related offense case.
Police stated that on Kartik 28, 2078 B.S., acting on special information, a search of Das’s house was conducted. During the search, 43.5 kilograms of marijuana was recovered from a room used for storing husk, where it had been hidden and covered with wheat husk. Following the incident, Das had gone into hiding.
Although legal proceedings were initiated against him immediately after the case was registered, he could not be arrested at that time.
Police stated that as part of a special surveillance and search operation conducted recently, they succeeded in taking him into custody on Jestha 20.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Panchalal Gole, Information Officer of the District Police Office, Mahottari, a five-day remand has been granted by the Mahottari District Court to carry forward further investigation against Das.
Police have stated that the necessary investigation process against him is currently ongoing under the offense of narcotics-related crime.
