Residents of Madhes Province, who have long been suffering from severe drought conditions, are finally seeing signs of relief due to recent rainfall. According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s Forecasting Division, various parts of the province recorded satisfactory rainfall over the past 24 hours.

The highest rainfall was recorded in Tulsi, Ward No. 11 of Mithila Municipality in Dhanusha, where 63.8 millimeters of rain was measured—making it the wettest spot in the entire province. Similarly, Amlekhgunj in Bara received 46.4 millimeters, Gaur in Rautahat recorded 44.6 millimeters, and Hardinath saw 51 millimeters of rainfall.

Meteorologists classify rainfall exceeding 50 millimeters as “heavy rainfall.” Based on this metric, both Tulsi and Hardinath experienced heavy rain, while other areas witnessed moderate precipitation.

In Sarlahi, 37.6 millimeters of rainfall was recorded, while Gaushala in Mahottari received 32.4 millimeters. However, Siraha and Saptari have yet to see significant rainfall. Still, after a prolonged dry spell, this recent rainfall is a promising sign of soil moisture recovery.

Local farmers appear optimistic following this rain. The prolonged drought had severely affected the cultivation of maize, paddy, and vegetables, but the current downpour has rekindled hopes of greenery returning to the fields.

Until the end of Asar (mid-July), insufficient rainfall had posed major challenges for paddy planting. Now, with the monsoon seemingly gaining momentum, agricultural experts believe crop production could reach satisfactory levels if the rains continue consistently.
