“We’ve struggled with water scarcity for many years. During these scorching summers, we had to walk far from the neighborhood just to fetch water,” shares Rameshwar Mahato, a local resident of Phulwari Tole. “Now that the municipality has started deep boring work, a wave of hope has been instilled among us.”
On Thursday, Bardibas Municipality Ward No. 7 officially inaugurated a deep boring project in Phulwari Tole aimed at resolving the drinking water and irrigation crisis. Mayor Prahlad Kumar Kshetri laid the foundation stone for the initiative in a formal ceremony.
During the event, Mayor Kshetri expressed confidence that this project would bring qualitative changes to the lives of local residents. “We are elected representatives to solve local problems. This deep boring will be effective for both drinking water and irrigation. Development will move forward by properly utilizing the people’s effort and taxpayers’ money,” he said.
According to him, once the deep boring is completed, the extracted water will be supplied to targeted households through a planned pipeline system. If necessary, the same water will also be used for irrigation.
In recent years, Phulwari Tole has faced an acute water crisis. Rapid urbanization and a declining water table have caused traditional wells to dry up. During the summer, irrigation for farming was nearly impossible, and even household water needs had to be met through water tankers or public taps.
“We filed complaints with the municipality repeatedly. We were witnessing the crisis unfold before our eyes. Eventually, the mayor himself came and initiated the project. This has restored public trust,” said local resident Baburam Mahato.
The deep boring is reported to go 200 feet deep. Ward Chairperson Ramswagarath Yadav (popularly known as ‘Bhoril’) stated that the project will benefit around 20 households in the ward.
Residents expressed happiness after the boring work began.
“This water stream won’t just quench our thirst; it will carry our hope and resilience,” said a 75-year-old local elder, whose emotional words touched everyone.
Phulwari Tole is home to people from various castes, ethnicities, and backgrounds. Water shortages have, at times, even triggered social tensions in the area. But this project now hints at becoming a vibrant example of social harmony and cooperation.
While the boring has started, pipeline installation and strengthening of the distribution system still remain. The mayor has pledged strict monitoring of the construction process.
“A reliable and sustainable solution has been pursued in the ward. The pace of development will now accelerate,” added Ward No. 7 Chairperson Yadav.
The deep boring project launched in Bardibas–7’s Phulwari Tole is more than just an initiative to access water; it symbolizes public trust, political willpower, and inclusive development. When development reaches people’s doorsteps, the journey toward prosperity truly begins.
