The plan to install a Bailey bridge over the Tilabe River, located at the border between Bahudarmai Municipality and Birgunj Metropolitan City in Parsa, has once again stalled despite assurances from the Road Department. The contract process for the steel Bailey bridge has been officially canceled.

The Tilabe bridge became vulnerable after its pillars and foundation were damaged by floods during the 2081 BS monsoon. Vehicular movement across the bridge is currently suspended, and pedestrians are compelled to cross at their own risk.

According to Manoj Kumar Patel, Chief of the Narayani Irrigation Management Office, the contract was canceled due to the unavailability of the steel Bailey bridge from the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport.

“The Road Department had invited bids for a contract worth NPR 33 million with the target of completing the installation of the Bailey bridge and approach road within the current fiscal year,” said Chief Patel. “The call for bids specified that work should begin within a week, but due to the onset of the rainy season, the process could not move forward.”

He further informed that the process for bridge installation and approach road construction would be restarted with the beginning of the new fiscal year.

The absence of the Bailey bridge at Tilabe River has severely impacted locals during the monsoon season. Students, patients, farmers, and other residents are facing great difficulties. The disruption of this vital route connecting rural eastern Parsa to Birgunj has significantly affected daily life.
