The Madhesh Province Government has announced an additional public holiday on Kartik 11 (Tuesday) to mark the conclusion of the Chhath festival, during which devotees offer arghya (ritual offerings) to the rising sun.
The Ministry of Home Affairs, Communication, and Law of Madhesh Province issued a notice on Friday, stating that all government offices, educational institutions, and public bodies across the province will remain closed on that day.
According to the notice issued by Under Secretary Ganesh Nayak, “As per the religious tradition of offering arghya to the rising sun on the final day of Chhath, the government has decided to declare a public holiday on Kartik 11 across the province for the convenience of devotees.”
Earlier, the Federal Government had declared Kartik 10 (Monday) as a nationwide public holiday to observe the third day of Chhath, when devotees offer arghya to the setting sun.
The Madhesh Province Government had already made provisions through the Provincial Gazette (published on Chaitra 22, 2081 BS) allowing the announcement of additional holidays during Chhath if necessary. In line with this provision, the ministry clarified that an extra public holiday has been declared this year.
