The Fishery Human Resource Development and Technology Testing Center, located in Janakpurdham, has reported producing 43.8 million hatchlings (fish fry) during the fiscal year 2082/83.
According to Center Chief Gyan Bahadur Jirel, during the review period, the center produced 43.8 million hatchlings, 3.2 million fry, 1.382 million fingerlings, and 2,053 kilograms of fish, all of which were sold and distributed. The center stated that it earned Rs. 3,435,536 from the sale of fish hatchlings.
Similarly, the center collected Rs. 324,300 in revenue from the rental of government property and Rs. 59,000 from various administrative services.
Fish hatchlings produced at the center are purchased by farmers from the Madhesh Province districts of Dhanusha, Mahottari, Siraha, Sarlahi, Rautahat, Bara, and Parsa. In addition, hatchlings produced here are also supplied to Kathmandu, Sindhuli, Ramechhap, and Dolakha districts of Bagmati Province, as well as Sunsari district of Koshi Province.
The center produces hatchlings of Rohu, Naini, Bhakur, Common Carp, Silver Carp, Bighead Carp, and Grass Carp species. In the previous fiscal year 2081/82, the center produced 47.505 million hatchlings, 3.236 million fry, 1.262 million fingerlings, and 2,000 kilograms of fish.
The center, which has been providing training and technical support to private hatchery operators, was established in 2018 B.S. Out of the 78 ponds within the center premises, 19 ponds are currently lying unused.
