According to government data, the lumpy skin disease outbreak in Madhesh Province has so far claimed the lives of 1,700 cattle. The Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives, and Poverty Alleviation reported that 52,686 animals across the province have tested positive for the disease.
Of these infected animals, 23,709 have recovered following treatment. The ministry stated that symptoms of lumpy skin disease in cattle include fever, skin lesions, and a loss of appetite for fodder and water.
To reduce the risk of infection, a vaccination campaign is underway. So far, 245,000 cattle have been vaccinated across the province. Among them, 231,515 were vaccinated through various expert centers.
Additionally, with the initiative of local governments, 566 cattle were vaccinated in Dhanusha, 175 in Sarlahi, and 3,700 in Rautahat, according to the ministry. The ministry emphasized the importance of timely treatment of infected animals and further expansion of the vaccination drive to prevent the disease from spreading.
