A formal rape case has been filed against Rajesh Ahiraj (also known as Rajesh Jha), the former Chief of Madhesh Province, at the Kathmandu District Court.
Ahiraj was arrested by police in Kathmandu on the 4th of Shrawan (July 19). Following a preliminary investigation, the District Government Attorney’s Office, Kathmandu, submitted a charge sheet to the court on Tuesday.
According to the charge, on the 4th of Jestha 2081 (May 17, 2024), Ahiraj allegedly raped a 26-year-old woman in a rented room in New Baneshwar. The victim claims that the two had known each other previously, and the incident occurred while she was alone in her apartment.
Under Section 219 (9)(ङ) of the Criminal Code Act 2074, the prosecution has demanded a prison sentence ranging from 7 to 10 years. Additionally, a fine of NPR 300,000 has been sought under Section 219 (3)(ग) of the same Act.
The Kathmandu District Court has officially registered the case, and preparations for the hearing are currently underway.
