On the occasion of International Youth Day 2025, a special program was organized in Bardibas Municipality, Mahottari. The event was held under the main theme: “Essence of Sustainable Development, Golden Future — Local Youth Participation as the Basis of Prosperity.”

Organized by Bardibas Youth Network and Royam Nepal, in coordination and collaboration with Bardibas Municipality, the program featured an interactive session with the Mayor focusing on the opportunities and challenges faced by youth.

Addressing the program, Mayor Prahlad Kumar Kshetri stated that Bardibas Municipality has been implementing various initiatives to connect youth with employment opportunities, including Public Service Commission preparation classes, skill-based training, and capacity-building programs. Emphasizing that youth participation is indispensable in development, he stressed the need for cooperation among all three tiers of government to curb social evils such as drug abuse.

During the event, participating youths engaged in direct dialogue with the Mayor, raising questions related to municipal development, education, employment, health, and social issues. According to Bardibas Youth Network President Surendra Sas, the interaction program was organized with the aim of addressing youth activism and concerns.

International Youth Day, established by the United Nations in 1999, is celebrated annually on August 12. This year’s theme is: “Youth Participation: The Foundation of a Sustainable Future.” The message calls for ensuring active youth involvement in social, economic, and political decision-making processes.

According to UN statistics, approximately 16% of the world’s population consists of young people aged 15 to 24. In Nepal, this proportion is even higher, highlighting the remarkable potential of youth as a driving force for social transformation and economic progress. Experts believe that sustainable and inclusive development is possible if youth creativity and capacity are incorporated into development planning.
