Police have seized a large quantity of banned narcotic cannabis near Jhajh Khola in Garuda Municipality-5 of Rautahat district. A team of plainclothes police officers discovered an abandoned Breza car hidden in the bushes this morning, containing approximately 133 kilograms of cannabis packed in 13 bundles.

The vehicle, bearing the number plate Ga 3 Cha 6796, was traveling from Chandranigahpur towards the district headquarters, Gaur. Officers from the Area Police Office in Garuda attempted to stop the car for a routine check. However, the driver sped off in an attempt to evade the checkpoint, prompting the police to chase the vehicle.

According to the police, the car was eventually found abandoned in a bush around 20 feet deep near Jhajh Khola in Garuda-5. The driver had fled the scene. With the help of a crane, the police retrieved the vehicle and brought it under control for investigation.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rajan Karki of the Area Police Office in Garuda said that the discovery of the driver’s license and other documents in the car is expected to help identify the absconding individual. “The vehicle along with the cannabis has been taken under control, and efforts to locate the fugitive have been intensified,” said DSP Karki.

Based on a tip-off about cannabis being transported towards Gaur, the police had increased security checks in the Garuda area. Authorities believe that this incident indicates possible involvement of an organized group in narcotics trafficking.

Amid a rising trend of drug smuggling in the Rautahat region in recent days, the vigilance and prompt action shown by the police has become a topic of discussion among locals.
