Amid growing concerns in the community over increasing drug trafficking in the Dudhauli area of Sindhuli, a local leader of the Nepal Student Union (NSU), the student wing of the Nepali Congress, has been arrested. This incident has raised serious questions about criminal activities under the cover of politics and the involvement of youth leaders.

Sushil Kapdi, who had contested the position of president from Kamala Multiple Campus in Dudhauli during the recent student union election on behalf of NSU, was caught by police while allegedly trafficking illegal drugs. Alongside him, Manoj Karki, a resident of Katari Municipality-3, Udayapur, was also arrested.

According to Sunil Prakash Subedi, Deputy Superintendent of Police and spokesperson for Sindhuli District Police Office, a team from Dudhauli Police Post conducted a raid at Kapdi’s house on Monday morning and seized 13 bottles of the banned drug “Onirex.” Both arrested individuals have been taken to Dakaha Police Station for further investigation.

Recent reports indicate that Dudhauli and its surrounding areas have been used as transit points for drug trafficking. A police source stated, “Surveillance was increased for this reason, and Kapdi and Karki were arrested during this operation.”

The news of a student leader being involved in drug trafficking has caused concern and discussion not only among the local community but also within political parties. Analysts have noted that this incident highlights the need to focus on moral education for youth leaders and the monitoring of student organizations.

Police have stated that they are preparing to file a case against Kapdi and Karki under the Narcotic Drugs Control Act. This incident has further strengthened the need to take strict measures to curb illegal drug trade in Sindhuli district.
