The Madhesh Province government has suspended the ‘Girl Education Insurance Program’ under the Chief Minister’s “Educate Daughters, Save Daughters” initiative, which was launched seven years ago.

According to the Education Development Directorate, no budget has been allocated for this program in the current fiscal year 2082/83. Priyanka Yadav, the program coordinator at the directorate, stated that the insurance program has been halted due to the lack of budget.

Directorate data shows that so far, 14,453 girls have been insured under this program. However, the insurance premiums for 10,000 girls are still pending payment. Under the program, the insurance premium for each girl has been set at NPR 37,457.37.

Education officials have expressed hope that the program will resume once the budget becomes available in the coming days.
