A young boy tragically drowned in a water-filled pit dug for road construction in Janakinagar, Haripur Municipality–1 of Sarlahi district.

According to the Area Police Office, Barhathwa, the body of six-year-old Sushant Yadav, son of local resident Dinesh Yadav, was recovered from the construction site late Tuesday night. The child had gone missing earlier that morning.

Despite frantic searches by the family throughout the day, they were unable to find him. In the evening, they informed the police. Around 11 PM, the boy was found dead, submerged in water in a pit dug by an excavator (JCB) for road construction.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Niranjan Bhattarai from the Area Police Office, Barhathwa, who arrived at the scene, confirmed that a site report was prepared early Wednesday morning. “The scene is secured and no suspicious circumstances have been observed,” DSP Bhattarai said.

The deceased’s body has been taken to the Provincial Hospital in Malangwa for post-mortem. Police say further investigation is ongoing.

Local residents, however, have expressed dissatisfaction with the authorities, blaming the tragedy on the lack of safety precautions during road construction.
