As the historic and cultural festival of Mithila, Bibaha Panchami, draws near, preparations in Janakpurdham have been moving ahead at a rapid pace. An all-party and all-stakeholders meeting was held on Thursday at the premises of Janaki Temple, deciding to celebrate this year’s festival in a more grand and well-organized manner.

At the meeting, Mahant Ram Roshan Das, the successor of Janaki Temple, presented a week-long program outline and informed that the arrangements for welcoming, hosting, and accommodating the wedding procession (Barat) arriving from Ayodhya are almost complete. According to him, Nagar Darshan will be held on Mangsir 4, Phulbari Leela on Mangsir 5, Dhanush Yagya on Mangsir 6, Tilakotsav on Mangsir 7, Matkor on Mangsir 8, and the Swayambar and Marriage Ceremony on Mangsir 9. The festival will conclude on Mangsir 10 with the Ramkalewa ritual, bidding farewell to the wedding procession.

According to Mahant Das, various sub-committees have been formed this year as well to ensure smooth and effective management. He stated, “With cooperation from all sides, we aim to make this year’s festival more organized and appealing than ever before.”

Addressing the meeting, Bade Mahant Ram Tapeshwar Das Vaishnav urged everyone to remain calm amid the ongoing political instability and protests in the country. He said, “Janakpurdham is a land of peace and devotion. Problems must be resolved through dialogue and consensus—violence leads to no achievement.”

The Bibaha Panchami festival, regarded as a major attraction for devotees from both Nepal and India, draws hundreds of thousands of pilgrims every year. During this occasion, visitors can witness religious tableaux, cultural performances, and various reflections of the rich Mithila traditions across Janakpurdham.
