In Katudhar, Ward No. 4 of Aurahi Municipality, Mahottari, a 10-year-old girl, Shivani Yadav, died after being hit by a motorcycle on Wednesday afternoon, prompting local residents to block the Hulaki Highway.
According to reports, the girl, who was riding a bicycle with Sandhya Yadav, was struck by a motorcycle driven by a person wearing a black jacket. Shivani, who was critically injured, was taken to Janaki Academic Hospital for treatment, but she passed away on Wednesday night, Mahottari Police spokesperson DSP Shailendra Bhatt confirmed.
The motorcycle and the driver involved in the incident are currently at large. Police have stated that the search is ongoing.
The deceased girl’s family and local residents blocked the Hulaki Highway from 11 a.m. on Thursday, demanding the identification and punishment of the offender.
After a discussion at the Gaushala Police Station between the deceased’s family, former mayor of Aurahi Municipality Sunil Kumar Yadav, and locals, it was agreed that the offender would be identified and legal proceedings initiated within a month. It was also decided to install CCTV cameras in the area, following which the locals agreed to reopen the road.
Police have taken the deceased girl’s body to Jaleshwar Hospital for post-mortem.
