With the aim of strengthening public safety, Bardibas Municipality has installed and brought into operation a network of CCTV cameras across various strategic locations in the city. The official inauguration of the “CCTV System Installation and Operation Program for Safer City Construction” was held on Friday in coordination with the Area Police Office, Bardibas. Mayor Prahlad Kumar Kshetri formally launched the system by switching it on.
Addressing the program, Mayor Kshetri emphasized that Bardibas is rapidly emerging as a vital hub in Madhesh Province, necessitating equal attention to development and crime control. “Bardibas serves as a central transit point, with thousands of people commuting daily. In such a scenario, the police must remain especially vigilant,” he said.
Highlighting the municipality’s prioritization of public safety, Mayor Kshetri mentioned that CCTV installation in key areas is part of a broader initiative. He further committed to expanding the system to additional locations as recommended by the police.
Chief Administrative Officer Rammani Adhikari reiterated that ensuring a safe Bardibas is a core responsibility of the municipality. “We’ve been coordinating with the Area Police Office to enhance safety across the city,” he said. “After learning from the shortcomings of the earlier surveillance system, this marks a renewed and improved effort.”
Speaking at the event, Dhan Bhusal, Director of Save the Children’s Bardibas Regional Office, expressed happiness in contributing not only to child welfare but also to disaster management and urban safety. She shed light on the organization’s goals, operational scope, and responsibilities.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bikash Bam, chief of the Area Police Office, Bardibas, stated that the main objective of installing the CCTV system is to build a safer city. “Criminal investigation is the prime responsibility of Nepal Police,” said DSP Bam, “but given today’s challenging circumstances, we are compelled to prioritize peace, security, and public order.”
He stressed the role of CCTV surveillance in crime control and assured that coordination with the municipality will continue for further expansion. “A safe society cannot be achieved through police efforts alone; public cooperation is essential,” DSP Bam emphasized.
New CCTV cameras have been installed in areas including the alley leading to the old marketplace near Risona Hotel in Bardibas–1, Hatilet in Ward No. 8, opposite the Rastriya Banijya Bank, and the Maithan area along the East–West Highway.
During the same program, Save the Children’s Bardibas Regional Office donated 20 life jackets to the Area Police Office for disaster management. Director Dhan Bhusal handed over the equipment to DSP Bikash Bam.
