Hanumannagar Kankalini Municipality to Bear Minimum Electricity Charges for Citizens

Hanumannagar Kankalini Municipality in Saptari has announced it will cover the minimum electricity charges for its residents starting from the fiscal year 2082/83 (2025/26). Mayor Birendra Majhi made this announcement during the 15th municipal assembly held on Monday.

According to Mayor Majhi, the municipality will bear the electricity charges for up to 20 units for customers with a sanctioned load of five amperes. “The Nepal Electricity Authority will provide records of those whose bills fall within 20 units, and the municipality will pay their bills accordingly,” he said. He also mentioned that there are plans to increase this limit to 30 units in the upcoming year.

For the fiscal year 2082/83, the municipality has presented a budget of NPR 666,866,170 (approximately 666.87 million rupees). Deputy Mayor Sarita Sipaliya made the budget public during Monday’s assembly.

Out of the 14 wards in the municipality, Wards 1, 3, 4, and 14 will each receive an allocation of NPR 8 million, while the remaining 10 wards will each receive NPR 5.5 million. According to Deputy Mayor Sipaliya, NPR 87 million has been allocated from the municipal level alone for the operation of ward offices.
