As the flow of the Saptakoshi River continued to increase, a team led by Sunsari Chief District Officer Basudev Ghimire, along with the chiefs of security agencies, conducted an on-site inspection of the Koshi Barrage to prepare for disaster response.

The water flow at the Koshi Barrage has reached 151,195 cusecs per second. Twenty gates of the barrage have been opened. A red warning light is switched on for high alert when the water flow in the Koshi reaches 150,000 cusecs per second.

After the inspection, Chief District Officer Ghimire said that the district’s disaster response plan is being implemented in view of the risk of floods, inundation, and erosion. He stated that the responsibilities of all agencies involved in disaster management have been clearly defined and that the necessary procedures have also been prepared.

Chief District Officer Ghimire informed that the Koshi Barrage bridge and vulnerable embankments have been repaired, adding that if erosion occurs or embankments are damaged due to flooding, the concerned project, the District Administration, and the security agencies are in a state of immediate preparedness.

The inspection was attended by Sunsari District Police Office Chief Keshav Kumar Thebe, Deputy Investigation Director Bimal Ghimire of the National Investigation District Office, Sunsari, along with representatives of the security agencies.
