The beautification and painting of the Shahlesh Baba Temple, located in Akawan Tole of Bardibas-12, Mahottari, has been completed. Considered the ancestral deity of the Paswan community, which falls under the Sintakrit ethnic group of Nepal, the temple holds deep cultural and spiritual importance for the community within Bardibas Municipality. The temple was formally inaugurated on Thursday through a special ceremony.

Mayor of Bardibas Municipality, Prahlad Kumar Kshetri, inaugurated the temple and pledged continued support from the municipality for the preservation and promotion of the temple, recognizing its religious, cultural, and social significance.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Mayor Kshetri said, “It is our responsibility to preserve and respect the identity, culture, and faiths of all castes and religions within Bardibas Municipality. The beautification of Shahlesh Baba Temple, a sacred center for the Paswan community, is part of that commitment.”

The temple’s beautification was carried out with financial assistance of NPR 250,000 provided by the municipality. The work included painting, mural decoration, renovation of the entrance gate, and cleanliness improvement.

The event saw notable participation from local leaders, representatives of the Paswan community, and other residents. Attendees expressed gratitude to the municipality and the mayor for their initiative in improving the temple’s infrastructure.

Shyam Paswan, a community leader and chairman of the temple management committee, stated, “We have been striving for years to preserve this temple. With the support of the municipality and the mayor, our dream has finally come true.”

The Shahlesh Baba Temple hosts special worship ceremonies, devotional singing (bhajan–kirtan), and various family rituals for the community every year. With the recent renovations, it is expected that devotees will have a more pleasant and spiritually enriching experience.

The municipality has increased its efforts in preserving religious sites as part of a broader strategy to promote religious tourism, safeguard local identity, and foster social unity. The beautification of Shahlesh Baba Temple in Bardibas-12 is regarded as an important step in that ongoing effort.
