A violent clash on Saturday evening in Chhanki Tole, Ward No. 1 of the border municipality of Balara in Sarlahi district, resulted in three Nepali youths being injured in a knife attack by Indian nationals. The incident, reportedly triggered by a dispute over alcohol consumption, has once again raised concerns about border security and the growing social tensions in the Nepal–India border region.

According to the Sarlahi District Police Office, the injured individuals have been identified as Dharmveer Sahani (25), Dashrath Sahani (18), and Amit Mandal (25), all residents of Balara Municipality–1. Police stated that the victims were given primary treatment at Dhulikhel Hospital in Balara and have since been discharged. Inspector Balister Singh confirmed that their condition is stable and not life-threatening.

Eyewitnesses reported that the confrontation began when a group of Indian youths — including Aman Singh, Vikas Singh, Atal Rai, and Abhishek Singh — who had crossed over from India, became involved in a dispute while consuming alcohol. The argument escalated, leading the Indian nationals to draw knives and attack the Nepali youths. After the assault, the attackers fled back across the border into India.

Upon receiving information about the incident, two police teams led by inspectors from the Gadhia Area Police Office and the District Police Office, Sarlahi, were deployed to the scene. However, due to the immediate escape of the assailants into Indian territory, the police were unable to apprehend them, according to official sources.

Local residents noted that due to the prohibition on the sale, distribution, and consumption of alcohol in the Indian state of Bihar, many Indian youths cross into Nepal to drink, particularly in border areas like Balara. This trend has led to increasing criminal activities and heightened tensions in the region.

Locals have emphasized the urgent need for coordinated efforts between the governments of Nepal and India to ensure law and order and security in the border areas.
